July 4th Shopping Data: Decline in Conversions?

So how did online retailers do this 4th of July? This article on MyThings.com has got some interesting data about the busy US holiday weekend.

For example, their analysts found that on July 4th itself, Americans seemed to opt for the holiday celebrations and BBQs instead of shopping online. There was a significant 21% drop in conversions on Friday the 4th with respect to the 2% average decrease on Fridays in June.

Unlike conversions, data of average order values showed an 8% decrease during the week of July 4th while on Thursday July 3rd there was a 17% difference. The reason for this is the significant July 4th sales.
